The Last Time I'll Be in the 80'S!
It's December 1989 and my childhood self writes about being ten-years-old and feeling nervous and excited about leaving my first full-decade behind.
This entry really gives a sense for how my 10-year-old mind is working through the idea of the passing of a decade and the feelings that can come with that. Even then I have a sense that the 80's mark an iconic decade!
I also write about the prep for a big road trip. This is our family's first trip from Iowa to Florida, with four kids rattling around in the back of our grandparents' motor home. Enjoy!
Thanks so much for reading today's entry! That That Was Rad is a reader-supported publication that shares snackable bits of 80's and 90's nostalgia through the lens of my real childhood journals. Enjoy a live read-aloud of today's entry with commentary and a journal prompt!

Our culture measures the passing of time in such interesting ways, and slowly we begin to absorb all that as kids. So for today's journal prompt, I'm curious to know when you remember first noticing the passing of time, and if you recall your first milestone dates, decades, or even birthdays. Be sure to sign in to share your thoughts!
You're so rad,
Sarah
