Well, I Got It!

I got it, but maybe not what you think!

Well, I Got It!
I got it, but maybe not what you think...

Have you seen the show "The Comeback" with Lisa Kudrow? If you have, then you probably recall the iconic moment when she films the talking head announcing that she was cast in a TV show.

If not, please find it somewhere - or at least watch this clip. It's about a Hollywood actress named Valerie Cherish, played by Kudrow, who signs up to be in a reality show of her comeback to TV, and in this moment the director keeps directing her to be more excited, repeating "Well, I got it!" until she almost combusts on the screen.

Last week I mentioned being nervous about the choir director announcing the cast of our 6th grade musical. This entry is dated "the next day" in which I reveal the results. My little 6th grade self is not much different than Valerie in this moment, and the excitement is palpable!

Enjoy a read aloud of today's entry with commentary!

The Next Day (January 15, 1991)

This will have to be real short, because it's 9:27 p.m. and Megann is about to blow my head off with her voice because I'm writting.
I am writing with my secret, little light up pen, so you can write in the dark. But anyway, I did it. I, Sarah K Schmitt, is the lead character in TEEN III.
I got it! Yippee. I wanted Jennifer so bad, and I got it!
Wow!

Yippee! I wanted Jennifer so bad, and I got it!
I would like a secret light up pen again! It reminds me of a Scholastic Book Fair find. Megann is my younger sister, who shared a room with me for most of my childhood. If my memory is right, I start a campaign for my own room not too long after this, and I'm pretty sure I write about it, so stay tuned for that adventure!

It was very exciting to get cast in the school musical, and to get the part that I wanted. There's a VHS of this show rolling around the house somewhere. Maybe I'll see if I can share a little bit. Continuing on with the entry...

Whoever was reading this now, I want you to close your eyes. and whisper a message to me. Somehow, I will answer you, either myself or through someone else.
Do not create a stir in public, though, for great trouble shall come to you if you do, for I like peace. And quiet. THINK. THINK. I am with you.
I hear your message. Ahhh. Ha Ha! So long for now, friend.

Umm...ok that's a little weird. Like I mention in the video commentary, I think I had a sense even then that my diary was not a secret diary. I lived in a full house, and I'm pretty sure that I figured that other people were reading it, or at least I thought someone else might someday. Looking back, all the way through high school I wrote in the second person. Sometimes I wrote to specific people (I went through a very intense Christian Bale phase after the original Newsies movie came out. Who's with me???), but other times it was the collective You. You Who? Who knew. Ah, I'm cracking myself up.

See you next week,
