What is it About Me that Boys Don't Like?

Today we cover homecoming games, boys, and "everyone" getting to wear a football player's jersey...except me!

What is it About Me that Boys Don't Like?
This entry is a good one! It's just so full of iconic, preteen/teen, angst stuff.
Everyone got to wear someone's jersey if they gave it to her, and I didn't get one.

September 20th

Dear Journal,

What is there about me that boys don't like?
I spent the last 2.5 hours at Winterset's Homecoming game, and no one, not one guy (ha, if you can call 12 year old adolescents 'GUYS') asked me out.
Everyone got to wear someone's, (someone in football) jersey, if a guy gave it to her. AND I DIDN'T GET ONE.

Oof, I'm really feeling for my 12-year-old self here. The social awkwardness is real, and I'm only twelve! This feels pretty par for what I continued to experience as a got older.

I also spent the last 2.5 hours dropping in and out of conversations, and occasionally being yelled at by someone saying, "Hey, Sarah, will you go out with...
Psych!" Darn. Sheesh, am I making this game sound totally bad?
Well, there were some good parts, like, when we would all say,

"Strawberry shortcake, banana, split! We think your team plays like. Shift to the left. Shift to the right.
Stand up, sit down, fight fight fight!

Listen, it's 10:30 p.m., and I have to babysit, have dancing, and a meeting of S.I.G.H, so I need to get my rest desperately.

On this page, I will write a list of topics I must cover to make this journal complete.

  1. Things I was in 6th grade
  2. Awards I have received
  3. My Dancing
  4. Marching Band
  5. Mrs. L
  6. My hair
  7. My writing (stories)
  8. What I want to be
  9. Boys
  10. Confusion over friends
  11. Confusion over life
  12.  “            “    “  sports
  13.  “            “    “ Boys
  14.  S.I.G.H and confusion
Oh little Sarah, so much confusion! I'm glad I had my journal to help express myself, because I don't really mention anyone that I feel I can talk to about these things.

For today's writing prompt, I'd love to know if you got to go to sporting events at this age without your parents. (I'm frankly surprised that I got to!) If so, how did you fare socially? Were you someone who fit in, or were you on the fringes, like me? I'd love to know your thoughts! Be sure to sign in to get the conversation going!
