My Favorite Class of the Day
The preteen rambling is real as I go through my school day and talk about my favorite (and least favorite) classes.
It's December 9, 1991 and I am hankering to finish my journal by the holidays so I can get a new one and start fresh. I write about random things like my classes and homeroom and what I'm singing in chorus. It's a fun window into my 7th grade life, and I wonder if it brings up any memories from your junior high days? Enjoy the video read-aloud (with commentary on my middle school mind) and the snapshots from my actual journal!
Hi! Sarah here! Before we get to the fun I want to share that That Was Rad is a reader-supported publication. If you're able, I would be grateful for your support, which will help make sure there's always a free version for anyone who wants some fun 80s and 90s nostalgia. Thank you!
Enjoy a live read-aloud of today's entry with commentary!

You also can support That Was Rad without a monthly membership! Yay! Tips are also gratefully accepted and will help keep the blog free for all. Thank you!

I wonder what "weird songs" we were singing in chorus. I appreciate that our chorus teacher was maybe helping us to branch out in some different genres! It's so fun that Reading is my favorite subject. This was back when early literature classes were called "Reading". We also had "Language" as a separate class, where we learned grammar and writing techniques.
In our school district where I am now, the kids have "English Language Arts", or ELA, from about 4th grade on, and it's a combined reading and writing class. I wonder when that got combined! If you're privy to how reading and writing is structured in schools these days, what's it like where you live?
This is a nice segue into today's journal prompt. What was your favorite subject in middle school? This is still a point in school where classes are pretty standard, without a lot of electives. So with the options you had, what did you enjoy the most? Sign in to share!
You're so rad,
Sarah
