Goodbye, 1991!
It's time to say farewell to 1991 and the first journal I ever finished!
December 31, 1991 has arrived and I'm filling the remaining pages of my trusty purple journal in whatever way I can. Did I actually finish it in its entirely, though?
No, I did not. There are about six glaringly empty pages in the back of this book. Part of me is surprised that I didn't cut them out just to give the appearance of me finishing the journal, since I was so concerned about that.
The final few pages are a really lovely reflection of 1991 and all that happened, including a mention of the end of the Soviet Union, which is one of the first geopolitical events that I can recall happening. I write that I don't know if the fall of the Soviet Union is "good or bad", which makes sense considering that I'm 12. I also add this:
"I hope that this journal will help us and myself remember 1991 with things that not only happened for me, but for things that happened for everybody."
It's seems like my 12-year-old self never really intended to keep this journal private. I write in it as if I actually meant for other people to read it someday! I go into more detail here in the video. Check it out!
