Trick-or-Treat is Cancelled
A freak snowstorm hits central Iowa just in time for Halloween.
Enjoy a read-aloud and commentary of today's entry!

It's Halloween, 1991, and central Iowa has been blasted with an unseasonably early snow storm. I'm bummed out because it has thrown a huge wrench in a bunch of plans like trick-or-treat and a couple of chorus concerts. I write it out as a dramatic narrative, putting myself in the third person and lamenting my misfortune. Enjoy the drama!

Oh my goodness, the drama! I kind of love that I share about my bad day as if it was a ghost story. I don't generally write about myself in the third person, but today it might have felt almost too painful to write about it in the first person.
It's always disappointing to have things get cancelled, and it sounds like this freakishly-early snow storm really put a damper on a lot of things that wouldn't normally be affected by inclement weather: a chorus concert or two (with a VERY expensive dress purchase) and trick-or-treat. It looks like trick-or-treat ended up being rescheduled, but only to conflict with other things. As I mention in the video above, this must have been one of the last times I would have likely gone trick-or-treating, so I imagine it would be all the more of a bummer to have it get cancelled.
For today's journal prompt, I'd love to hear about any of your favorite Halloweens that didn't get cancelled. Tell me about your favorite costume, story, candy, whatever! Sign in to share.
Thank as always for being here!
You're so rad,
Sarah
